wargaming Solferino

It was the bloodiest battle since waterloo .In 1859 Mars was to the good cause and there died a myriad. The wounded were bayoneted where they fell and the peasants robbed the dead and the dying of what they had as night fell. Two armies wandering the plains of Lombardy met by chance and then all hell was let loose
42 mm Figures by Irregular. These are perfect as French Zouaves at solferino. Alongside is how the Legion fought in 1859 although one does wonder if they fought like this in the sweltering heat. Some say they wore blue tunics and white trousers in that Italian summer

THE FRENCH ARMY BETWEEN ITALY AND THE FRANCO PRUSSIAN .THE RIGHT UNIFORM

Troops of the 2nd Empire
Imperial guards of what period ? The Italian campaign or the F.P war

Chasseur but here it seems that its well before 1870 and maybe before the Italian campaign

Currassier Helmet 1858.Did it differ to that of the Franco Prussian one

Battle honours risorgimento figures

French Line infantry at Rome in the 1850's

These are from 1853

and here around 1860. Can you see the slight differences?

The Imperial Guard inItaly in 1859. These French troops differed in some aspect of their uniform as regards those that took part in the Franco Prussian War later on.Here we will try to discover these aspects. The uniforms here depict the Imperial guard in Italy and not in the Franco-Prussian. One thing we can conclude is that the bearskin was replaced by the bonnet in the Franco Prussian although some bearskins were still worn(to be continued)
